Study Shows Cloud Security Benefits for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses (SMBs)

May 15th, 2012 • Posted by David Franklin • Permalink

Some impressive numbers from a study of small businesses using cloud computing -- just a few highlights reprinted here:

  • 35% have experienced noticeably higher levels of security since moving to the cloud.
  • 32% spend less time managing security than companies not utilizing cloud solutions.

Of SMBs already using the cloud:

  • 41% are able to employ more staff in roles that directly benefit sales growth.
  • 39% invest more in product development.

For those of us working with cloud applications and platforms, these kinds of results aren't surprising, but its good to see some level of quantification. Granted, the source is not without some bias, but I imagine we will see many more efforts that will confirm these kinds of results over time.

The study was commissioned by Microsoft and performed by Comscore: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/news/Press/2012/May12/05-14SMBSecuritySurveyPR.aspx

Thank you explaining cloud conputing. I've used Outlook Exchange for awhile now, but I have recently started looking into applications based in the cloud, like Evernote. When it comes time for me to purchase an EMR/EHR, I will definitely need to look hard at those that are cloud based.
